Do Evri Deliver on Bank Holidays in the UK? Timings, Delays, and Rules

Evri does not run local courier collections on bank holidays in the UK. Some Evri services still operate around bank holidays, but timings depend on the service, the day, and the parcel type.

What Evri says about collections

Evri’s official courier collection page is clear. Collection times are between 8am and 8pm on working days and between 8am and 6pm on Saturdays. The same page says local couriers do not collect parcels on Sundays or on bank holidays. That is the clearest rule for anyone waiting for a courier pick-up.

If your parcel is due for collection on a bank holiday, you should expect the collection to move to the next working day or to another available slot. Evri does not present bank holiday collection as a normal service day.

What Evri says about delivery

Evri also runs service-specific delivery options that can still work outside normal weekday hours. Its Sunday delivery page says the parcel drop-off network is open 7 days a week, almost all ParcelShops are open 7 days a week, and Lockers are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That means customers can still send or prepare parcels even when courier collections are paused for a bank holiday.

Evri has also published special holiday guidance before. In its Easter delivery notice, the company said home delivery would not run on Easter Sunday or Easter Monday. That shows bank holiday delivery rules can change by holiday and by service, so it is not safe to assume every bank holiday works the same way.

Why delays happen on bank holidays

Evri’s service status page says that if it is experiencing delays, updates will appear there and parcels will be delivered as soon as possible. It also tells customers to check notifications and, where possible, divert parcels to a ParcelShop or Locker. Around bank holiday periods, this matters because networks are busier and normal collection days may be reduced.

Evri also advised customers to order early before the Easter bank holiday weekend. Its holiday guidance for Easter included a specific cut-off for sending parcels before the holiday break. That is a strong sign that timing can tighten when a bank holiday is near.

Retail operations in the UK also face timing changes during holidays, similar to cases like the UK Toy Chain Entertainer Store Closure, which affected customer access and service availability during key periods.

Rules for parcel collections and delivery slots

Evri says its expected delivery times, or ETAs, are set by the courier on the morning of delivery. The ETA cannot be changed, but customers can divert the parcel to a neighbour or safe place. For parcels that need a signature from the address, Evri says diversion to a neighbour or safe place is not available, and the courier will try delivery on three separate days.

This is important on bank holiday weeks because the delivery slot may arrive later than planned, or move to another day entirely. If you need the parcel quickly, checking the ETA and diversion options is better than waiting for a fixed time that may not hold.

Evri’s Next Day service also has clear timing rules. If a parcel is dropped off before 12pm on Friday, Evri says it should arrive by Saturday. If you drop off during the weekend, it can take longer and Next Day is not guaranteed. That makes bank holiday weekends less predictable, especially when Friday is the last working day before a long break.

Bank holidays in the UK are not all the same

The UK does not use one single bank holiday calendar for every nation. GOV.UK shows separate bank holiday lists for England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. It also says that if a bank holiday falls on a weekend, a substitute weekday normally becomes the bank holiday, usually the following Monday. That matters when checking Evri timings, because the local holiday schedule can change the delivery day.

So, if a parcel is booked around a bank holiday, the right rule depends on the exact day and the service used. A courier collection will not happen on the bank holiday itself, but drop-off locations may still be open, and some delivery services may still run under separate holiday rules.

What to check before a bank holiday delivery

Before a bank holiday, Evri’s own guidance points to four useful checks. First, look at the service status page for delays. Second, check the tracking notifications. Third, use a ParcelShop or Locker if you need more flexibility. Fourth, review the service type, because collections, Sunday services, and Next Day delivery do not all follow the same timing rules.

ParcelShops are especially useful when time is tight. Evri says there are 9,000 plus ParcelShops across the UK, many of them open early until late, 7 days a week, and most have Print In ParcelShop devices. That gives customers a practical option when a bank holiday blocks normal courier collection.

Lockers are another useful option because Evri says they are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. For people sending or returning parcels near a bank holiday, that can be easier than waiting for a weekday courier visit.

If a parcel is already in transit, the safest approach is to track it, watch for ETA updates, and use diversion options where allowed. Evri’s official pages make clear that delivery timing can shift, especially when a holiday interrupts the normal working week.
